2-Amino-4-ethoxy-4-oxobutanoic acid or 4-ethylaspartate may have neuroprotective properties. It can be used in the synthesis of possible compounds in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. Its effectiveness in inflammation and tumor formation processes can also be investigated.

Description
2-Amino-4-ethoxy-4-oxobutanoic-acid is the ethyl ester of DL-aspartic acid.
It has a very high melting and decomposition point because of it contains carboxyl and amino group in
its molecular structure. It has a chiral carbon so it has two isomers, R and S.
Aspartic acid has two ethyl esters, 1-ethylaspartate and 4-ethylaspartate, depending on the carbonyl group
where the ethyl group is located.
Ethyl esters are used as intermediates in peptide synthesis.
